Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update:

Learn how CowanGates is protecting our clients, staff, and community.

Updated March 17, 2020 at 12:30 p.m.

CowanGates, along with the rest of our country, is continuing to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and adjust to ever-changing protocol and recommendations and the resulting impact on our clients, businesses, government offices, and the court systems. Through it all, our primary focus and concern continues to be the health, safety, and wellbeing of our clients, employees, and attorneys.

Our office is open for business and we have implemented and increased efforts to keep our office safe for our employees, clients, business partners, and other guests. In addition, we have taken steps and developed procedures to ensure our clients will continue to receive the same level of prompt, personal service they have come to expect.

Some of the measures we have implemented include:

  • Adopting a “no handshake” policy for our office
  • An increased focus on disinfecting our office and best practices to avoid the transmission of germs (e.g., availability of hand sanitizer and instructions on what staff can do to prevent the spread of germs)
  • Provisions for attorneys and staff to work remotely, if necessary, to avoid any interruption in services
  • Encouraging alternatives to in-person meetings, except where necessary
  • Requesting lawyers, staff, clients, and other guests who are sick, have household members who are sick, or who have recently traveled to areas where COVID-19 is prevalent, to avoid coming into the office

CowanGates will continue to closely monitor this evolving situation and revisit these measures as it unfolds. In the interim, we will continue to provide the same quality legal services while doing our part to keep our clients, lawyers, staff, and business partners safe. We will be vigilant and intentional in our efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. Please take care of yourself, your loved ones, neighbors, and coworkers. We hope that all of you remain safe and healthy during this time of uncertainty.

Since our founding in 1977, CowanGates has been involved in numerous community building activities as a firm. In recent years, we have hosted a semi-annual blood drive in Chesterfield County to support the American Red Cross. We also support the National MS Society by fundraising and entering a cycling team into the annual Colonial Crossroads Bike MS event, a two-day cycling tour throughout Southeastern Virginia that supports MS awareness and research funding.
